Oaxaca is extremely mountainous and Mexico's most biodiverse region. Known for its cuisine, culture, and mezcal, coffee has never been its highest quality export. The high elevation and cool temperatures of this region are conducive to coffee growing, but the soil tends to be more rugged. Coffee producers have lived in this area for generations, though, and are beginning to produce microlots, bringing new buyers to the region, including us. In the years to come, Oaxaca will be a larger player in specialty coffee production as producers overcome coffee leaf rust and perfect their processing techniques.
